- Thinking like this wrecks your results…
Thinking like this wrecks your results…
Thinking like this wrecks your results…
There is one glaring issue I see which holds back patients and clients from achieving meaningful & consistent results to optimise their health.
Hell, with optimising their lives.
What is it?
Instant Gratification
The world is filled with dopamine boosting instant gratification from smartphones, video games, and social media etc.
And it’s conditioned people into thinking immediate results are the norm.
Overnight fitness transformations
Overnight Dogecoin millionaires
Instant beauty transformations
Instant gratification has become so insidious and ingrained in our culture that it’s hard to remember that this is, in fact, not normal.
Survivorship bias means you rarely hear about fitness transformations that crashed and burned, because they didn’t know what they were doing. Leaving the worse off than before.
You don’t hear about the people who lost millions of dollars in the markets trying to chase the good fortune of others.
"History is written by the victors" is true as it is for history books as it is our instant gratification, dopamine-induced culture today.
Increasingly, when people don’t see instant results in any arena in life, they become easily disillusioned and discouraged.
For example:
You struggle with meditation because the chattering mind persists, and there’s no instant enlightenment.
You can’t pull a 500 lb deadlift after going to the gym for one month.
We’ve become victims of our own success in Western culture.
We’re living through a time of unparalleled abundance and prosperity Since World War Two.
The greatest in human history.
Previous generations grappled with The Great Depression and WW2.
Their character was forged of granite, their spirits as strong as steel.
I have witnessed this phenomenon in my own practice.
I often see patients clients discouraged or disappointed about their success, often only a few months into their journey.
They expected their weigh tissues or blood results to resolve overnight.
They’ve bought into the idea that instant results are the norm.
Tens of thousands of years of human history say otherwise.
(This is why I work with clients for a minimum of six months, as that’s how long it takes to see REAL, lasting change.)
For example, let’s say someone loses a whopping 20-25 lbs in the space of three months – a challenging, but achievable goal.
Yet despite their incredible progress, this person still feels ‘disappointed’ because they’re ‘not where they want to be,’ or they feel they could do more.
In truth, our culture that expects and insists on overnight results has warped their sense of what’s realistic and doable.
Previous generations deeply appreciated the value of patience and how it shapes your character beneficially.
Rome was not built in a day and so it is with your mind and body.
If you've spent years eating badly, you can't just unfuck yourself in 3 weeks.
Think in terms of building a long-term lifestyle, not in terms of losing 30 lbs so you can look sexy on Miami Beach in the summer.
In bygone eras, men would do apprenticeships for several years.
Because that’s how long it took to truly master a craft.
In everything you do, whether nutrition, exercise, stress management, or even business…
You must do it with constant focus, regular practice, and above all, PATIENCE.

Ditch the instant gratification mindset.
Not only are you more likely to achieve sustainable results, but you’ll feel more at peace.
You won’t feel like a dog constantly chasing its tail in the relentless pursuit of unrealistic results.
Ask yourself, where are you thinking with an instant gratification mindset in your life right now?
Are you doing it with your health and fitness goals and expecting too much of yourself?
Can you ditch it and start thinking more long-term, both for better results and peace of mind?
