Are you ready?
It's that time of year again! The holiday season is upon us, and I know we're all feeling the pressure to prepare.
In the rush to do so, it’s all too easy to lose track of taking care of yourself properly. Especially if you have a lot of family around or young children.
Your mental & physical health doesn’t take a break for the holidays.
Pushing yourself to the absolute limit so you can take it easy in January isn’t the best way to do it.
And neither is the weak excuse of waiting until then to start new healthy habits.
Keeping yourself on the rails and maintaining any good habits you’ve created can be more difficult over the coming weeks, so it’s important to consider what you’re doing.
Especially if you leave your usual environment for a few days, 3 days out of routine can snowball into 3 weeks.
So find some ways to adapt.
If you can’t get to a gym, maintain the habit with bodyweight exercises until you can get back to the heavy stuff. Take the opportunity for after meal walks to help you control blood sugar after all that rich, tasty food.
Stay well hydrated, particularly if you’ve been drinking alcohol.
You may be without your usually cues and vessels that remind you to drink enough water, but commandeer a glass if you need to and make sure it’s full & at your bedside in the morning.
Make sure you’re getting enough sleep. Although things can get hectic with early mornings, late nights & disturbed sleep, find a way to prioritise getting enough rest.
It’ll obviously help your health long term, and it’ll keep your mood and energy levels up. Useful for avoiding those dinner table fights.
And don't forget to take care of your mental health.
The holidays can be a stressful time for many people, so make sure to practice self-care.
Whether it's taking a relaxing bath, meditating, or even just taking a break from all the hustle and bustle, make sure to do something for yourself.
So there you have it!
A few simple tips to help you stay healthy and happy during the holiday season. Hope you're getting yourself ready....
To your best health,
